Many Cultures, One Message
Many Cultures, One Message (MCOM) is an unincorporated group dedicated to preserving the diverse and vibrant neighborhoods of Southeast Seattle. MCOM was initially formed to combat efforts by the city of Seattle to use Washington’s Community Renewal Law (CRL) to declare portions of Southeast Seattle “blighted” and authorize the taking of private homes and businesses through eminent domain for transfer to private entities. MCOM successfully mobilized public opposition to this plan and the city halted its efforts to use the CRL in 2007. As a group comprised of neighbors fighting to save their homes and small businesses, grassroots activism is a key component of their efforts to preserve their neighborhood.
